Let Your Baby Shower Guide The Gift Giving
By Desmond Ong

It’s always so difficult to decide on a gift for a baby shower. After all, you can give the mom-to-be something cute and cuddly, a precious keepsake, or something that will appeal to the more practical side. How will you decide?

One way to select a gift is to coordinate the baby shower gift with the shower itself. Has the shower been planned? No? Great! Here are some fantastic ideas for a great baby shower, and some of the gifts that would go well with them.

Diaper Party

Quick! What’s the thing that new Moms will need the most often during the first two years of their baby’s life? Diapers, of course! And if you’ve checked out the price for them lately, then you know that any new Mom would revel in starting things out with an abundant supply. Why not throw a diaper party, and then ask all of the guests to bring diapers, along with a related gift? The new Mom will find herself swimming in diapers, cream, pins, rash treatment and more!

Stock-Up Party

After a Mom has a baby, the last thing she wants to do is spend time cooking in her kitchen, and depending on the ability of her husband to make a good meal, that could mean lots of nights filled with fast food. (The last thing a new Mom who is trying to lose those extra pounds needs!) Why not have a stock-up party, and then ask all of the guests to prepare something special (that can be frozen) and have them bring it to the baby shower? If they wanted to do more, they could include another gift alongside it.

Soft And Cuddly Party

If we let our emotions rule our baby shower gift giving, teddy bears and other stuffed animals would win every time. We’ve all walked through the toy section of a store and been swept away by the precious look of a particular stuffed animal! Why not hold a soft and cuddly party for the baby-to-be and have each of the guests bring that perfect stuffed animal?

A Color Party

Most moms-to-be know exactly what color their nurseries will be before the doctor ever says, “Yes! You’re pregnant!” Some are designed around a special quilt, others around a theme that can be bought from a department store, or some around the new parent’s favorite color. A great idea for baby shower gifts is to find out what color the nursery will be, and then plan the gifts around it. Assign each of the guests a color (or all the same if the nursery will be monotone) and ask them to concentrate on different areas of the nursery. One could bring a gift related to the crib, another for the window and another yet for the changing table. By the end of the shower, the nursery will be half-way decorated!

Buying that special gift for a baby shower can be tricky because there are so many wonderful gifts to choose from. Don’t forget to take the parent’s personalities in mind when shopping for your gift, and any special requirements that they may have. But most of all—just have fun!
